A stigmergic approach for dynamic routing of active products in FMS
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper illustrates the capacity of a stigmergic routing control model to automatically find efficient routing paths for active products in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) undergoing perturbations. The proposed model is based upon a functional architecture with two levels: a virtual level in which virtual active products (VAPs) evolve stochastically in accelerated time, and a physical level in which physical active products (PAPs) evolve deterministically in real-time. The physical active products follow the best paths that have been detected on the virtual level, with a virtual level exploration being triggered when a perturbation is diagnosed in the transportation system. The data used for the simulation on the virtual level is then updated to reflect the real state of the transportation system. The model’s adaptive capabilities are illustrated with several simulation scenarios using NetLogo software, and an on-going real implementation is presented. 2008 Elsevier B.V. A Robust Model for a Dynamic Cellular Manufacturing System with Production Planning
In this paper, a robust optimization approach is proposed to design a dynamic cellular manufacturing system (DCMS) under uncertainty of processing time of products. In addition, a mathematical model considering cell formation, inter-cell design and production planning under a dynamic environment (i.e., product mix and demand are changed in each period) is presented. Therefore, reconfiguration b...

In any supply chain, distribution planning of products is of great importance to managers. With effective and flexible distribution planning, mangers can increase the efficiency of time, place, and delivery utility of whole supply chain. In this paper, inventory routing problem (IRP) is applied to distribution planning of perishable products in a supply chain. The studied supply chain is compos...
متن کاملBio-inspired approach for autonomous routing in FMS
Today's mass production strategies are unable to cope with the present needs of the manufacturing industry, which is constantly confronted with changing and increasingly complex product requirements as well as mounting pressure to decrease costs. To meet this challenge, Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) must become more robust, scalable, reconfigurable, dynamic, adaptable and even more flexi...
متن کاملWhen Ants Attack: Security Issues for Stigmergic Systems
Stigmergic systems solve global problems by using indirect communication mediated by an environment. Because they are localized and dynamic, stigmergic systems are self-organizing, robust and adaptive. These properties are useful for creating survivable systems, but stigmergic systems also raise new security concerns. Indirect communication makes systems more vulnerable in an open and hostile e...
